Mighty Times: The Children’s March, the Academy Award winning short documentary of 2004, will be screened with Home of the Brave for the February 15 installment of the Contemporary Documentary Series, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the Academy Foundation and the UCLA Film and Television Archive. Free and open to the public, the screening begins at 7:30 p.m. in the James Bridges Theater on the UCLA campus.

Mighty Times: The Children’s March revisits 1963, when five thousand black children in Birmingham, Alabama, brought the prevailing white power structure to its knees through organized acts of civil disobedience. The film was directed and produced by Robert Hudson and Bobby Houston.

Home of the Brave offers a full exploration of the murder of Viola Liuzzo, the only white woman murdered in the Civil Rights Movement. Her death was largely credited as having given President Lyndon Johnson the necessary leverage to get Congress to pass the Voting Rights Act. Paola di Florio directed the feature-length film, which was produced by Nancy Dickenson.
