Guy Hamilton and THE THIRD MAN
May 16th, 2005 by Andre Soares
British director Guy Hamilton, 82, who worked as an assistant director on Carol Reed’s 1949 noirish thriller The Third Man, showed up at Cannes to promote Frederick Baker’s documentary Shadowing the Third Man. Hamilton asserts that The Third Man was a Carol Reed film, not a Orson Welles film credited to Carol Reed, as some have claimed. Welles plays a shadowy villain in that farfetched though widely admired thriller starring Joseph Cotten and Alida Valli.
