Karlovy Vary International Film Festival 2006
July 4th, 2006 by Andre Soares

Among the films in the official competition at the 41st Karlovy Vary Film Festival, which kicked off on June 30, are Miguel Pereira’s El Destino / Destiny (Argentina / Spain, above left), the tale of a man disguised as a priest who seeks refuge in a village in the middle of nowhere (the no man’s land in question is the border between Bolivia and Argentina); Aku Louhimies’s Valkoinen Kaupunki / Frozen City (Finland, above right), about a Helsinki taxi driver (Janne Virtanen) who loses his wife, his job, and his
wits; Ignacio Ortíz’s Ariel Award winner Mezcal (Mexico), an unusual take on the art of storytelling; and Joachim Trier’s Reprise (Norway), the story of two writer wannabes.
The festival runs until July 8.
Boyd van Hoeij has been reporting on the Karlovy Vary festival at European Films.
