Mark A. Reyes‘ Resiklo, about robots made from recycled material battling evil forces — any similarity to Transformers may or may not be coincidental — was the top winner at the 2008 Metro Manila Film Festival. Best director honors went to newcomer Cesar Apolinario for Banal, the story of two SWAT cops on different sides of the integrity line. Filipino senator Jinggoy Estrada, who was recently acquitted of plunder charges, took the best actor trophy for Katas ng Saudi, about the difficulties faced by returning overseas Filipino workers, while Maricel Soriano was chosen best actress for her performance as a woman who develops a close bond with her adopted daughter (Marian Rivera) in Bahay Kubo.
