2008 Metro Manila Film Festival award winners: SMX Exhibition Center of the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City on January 5, 2008.

Mark A. ReyesResiklo, about robots made from recycled material battling evil forces — any similarity to Transformers may or may not be coincidental — was the top winner at the 2008 Metro Manila Film Festival. Best director honors went to newcomer Cesar Apolinario for Banal, the story of two SWAT cops on different sides of the integrity line. Filipino senator Jinggoy Estrada, who was recently acquitted of plunder charges, took the best actor trophy for Katas ng Saudi, about the difficulties faced by returning overseas Filipino workers, while Maricel Soriano was chosen best actress for her performance as a woman who develops a close bond with her adopted daughter (Marian Rivera) in Bahay Kubo.

Best Actress: Maricel Soriano, Bahay Kubo

Best Supporting Actor: Roi Vinzons, Resiklo

Best Screenplay: Jose Javier Reyes, Katas ng Saudi

Best Story: Mae Cruz and Cesar Apolinario, Banal

Best Cinematography: Jay Linao, Resiklo

Best Editing: Jay Halili, Resiklo

Best Musical Score: Von de Guzman, Bahay Kubo

Best Original Theme Song: "Wala Na Bang Pag-asa?" by Rusty Fernandez, Anak ng Kumander

Best Production Design: Rodel Cruz, Resiklo

Best Visual Effects: Ignite Media, Resiklo

Best Sound: Ditoy Aguila, Resiklo

Best Make-Up: Rosalinda Lopez, Desperadas

Best Child Performer: Nash Aguas, Shake, Rattle and Roll 9

Most Gender Sensitive Film: Desperadas

Gatpuno Antonio Villegas Cultural Award: Bahay Kubo and Katas ng Saudi
