2008 Metro Manila Film Festival Awards

2008 Metro Manila Film Festival: December 25, 2008 – January 7, 2009

Anne Curtis, Jericho Rosales in Baler
Mark Reily’s period romantic drama Baler was the big winner at the 2008 Manila Film Festival, receiving ten awards including best picture, best director, and best actress (Anne Curtis). Written by Roy C. Iglesias, Baler is set near the end of the 19th century, when Spanish domination of the Philippines was about to come to an end. The film’s title refers to the site of a pro-independence revolt. (Spanish domination, however, was replaced by American domination. The Philippines would become officially independent only in 1946.)

many good Pinoy movies when they really try hard enough: enough budget, good writers, great technicians.

    mabuhay ang mga pinoy.
