Santa Barbara Film Festival 2005

Among the highlights of the 20th Santa Barbara Film Festival are François Ozon’s 5×2; Oliver Hirschbiegel’s Der Untergang / Downfall, the controversial German-made drama about Adolf Hitler’s last days; Antonio Dorado’s El Rey, which has been touted as Colombia’s answer to Brian DePalma’s 1983 Scarface; European Film Academy Award winner Gegen die Wand / Head On, directed by Fatih Akin; and a Frank Borzage retrospective.

Borzage won the first Best Director Academy Award for 7th Heaven. (Note: That year, there was also a Best Comedy Direction Academy Award that went to Lewis Milestone for Two Arabian Knights.)
