View from the Bridge: Stories from Kosovo - John Ealer and Laura Bialis

According to its press release, John Ealer and Laura BialisView from the Bridge: Stories from Kosovo is the first feature documentary about post-war Kosovo, a semi-autonomous Serbian province inhabited by Albanians and currently under the aegis of the United Nations.

Last fall, the European Union Planning Team for Kosovo began using View from the Bridge as part of its training program for all EU staff working in Kosovo, "hailing the film as the most balanced and compassionate portrayal of the province to date."

The press release adds that "with Russia and the United States squaring off over the future of Kosovo, with the threat of renewed bloodshed looming over the province, and with all the world looking to Kosovo as a test-case for other war-torn areas, Kosovo is once again headline news. Within days or weeks, Kosovo may unilaterally declare independence from Serbia, a declaration that could re-ignite cold war tensions — or lead to civil war."

The documentary’s title refers to the bridge in the town of Mitrovica, which "has become a flashpoint in the continuing conflict between Muslims, Christians and Roma (Gypsies)."

View from the Bridge: Stories from Kosovo will screen on Thursday, January 24, at 12:30 p.m., in the Treasure Mountain Inn at 255 Main Street in Park City.
