It also bothered me that the movie ended without an end tie to some events, like Dieter's engagement. One area that I do disagree with Dan, is the subject matter regarding Dieter's pre-POW days. Although that would probably be an interesting area to dive into, by doing just that and diving in, the story would be sidetracked and drawn away from the rest of the story. Would it make a good story? That all depends on the way the director produces it, and one can also bet that Herzog probably has Dieter talking about just that on one of the reels of film not used.
