The Golden Globes Do Matter

According to Exhibitor Relations, Brokeback Mountain shot up to the top spot in the U.S. / Canada box office this past Tuesday and Wednesday, following the film’s success at the Golden Globes ceremony where it won four awards: Best Picture, Best Director (Ang Lee), Best Screenplay (Larry McMurtry and Diana Ossana), and Best Song ("A Love That Will Never Grow Old," by Gustavo Santaolalla and Bernie Taupin).

Most remarkable is the fact that Brokeback Mountain is only playing in about one-third of the number of theaters of most of the other films in the top-ten box-office list.
