THE WOMEN 2008 Trailer
by Andre Soares
Based on Clare Boothe Luce’s play, screenwriter-director Diane English’s upcoming The Women’s all-female cast features Meg Ryan, Annette Bening, Eva Mendes, Bette Midler, Candice Bergen, Jada Pinkett Smith, Carrie Fisher, Cloris Leachman, Debra Messing, and Joanna Gleason.
The nearly flawless original, directed by George Cukor in 1939, starred Norma Shearer, Joan Crawford, Rosalind Russell, Paulette Goddard, Joan Fontaine, Lucile Watson, Virginia Weidler, Marjorie Main, Phyllis Povah, Virginia Grey (perfect in a small role), and stealing every scene she’s in, Mary Boland.
A 1956 remake directed by David Miller, The Opposite Sex, was a critical and box-office disappointment. June Allyson, Joan Collins, Ann Sheridan, Dolores Gray, Ann Miller, Joan Blondell, Agnes Moorehead, and Charlotte Greenwood starred. Perhaps the problem with this one was the presence of men in the persons of Leslie Nielsen, Jeff Richards, Sam Levene, and others.

Is Hollywood serious???? It is obvious that there are absolutely NO more screen writers in Hollywood with talent! They have to take a perfect movie and screw it up with washed up has beens. Clara would roll over in her grave if she was subjected to this tripe. Seriously… Has all of America gone dead above the neck to think this could even come close to being a good movie??????? The only redeeming factor is the presence of Bette Midler in a role for her. And I hear they are trying to remake Gaslight. So how’s that supposed to work with electricity? I’m done going to the movies. I’ll watch the good ones on TCM and watch TV from now on. Thanks for nothing. I was excited about the remake until I saw the trailer.
