Tom Cruise in VALKYRIE Trailer
After lots of later-rather-sooner, sooner-rather-later, etc., the much discussed Valkyrie is scheduled to open in the US on December 26, 2008. In other words, in time for Oscar 2009 consideration.
Directed by the gifted Bryan Singer and written by Christopher McQuarrie (who collaborated with Singer in The Usual Suspects) and Nathan Alexander, Valkyrie (pronounced VAL-kuh-ry — or something along those lines) stars Tom Cruise as Col. Claus von Stauffenberg, the leader of a group of German officers who plotted to assassinate Hitler at the height of World War II. Things, however, don’t go quite as planned.
Earlier this year, rumors abounded that Cruise’s German accent was laughable. As can be attested by the trailer, there’s no German accent to be heard. Either Cruise looped all his lines, or those rumors were just that.
Also in the cast: Kenneth Branagh, Bill Nighy, Tom Wilkinson, Carice van Houten, Thomas Kretschmann, and Terence Stamp.
