While plugging his upcoming Wikileaks movie The Fifth Estate at the 2013 Toronto Film Festival, Bill Condon spoke with Collider.com’s Steve Weintraub about his own private version of the two Twilight Saga movies he directed — Breaking Dawn - Part 1 and Breaking Dawn - Part 2. In Condon’s "director’s cut," the two movies based on Stephenie Meyer’s final Twilight novel are rolled into one.
In answer to a question about his contributions to the Twilight Saga box set to come out in fall 2013, Bill Condon explained that although there shouldn’t be any additional Breaking Dawn - Part 2 scenes, "I do have a kind of version of those two [Breaking Dawn] movies cut into one movie that is not going to be [in the box set], but I hope one day might emerge. I think it would be an interesting experience for those who are really into it."
Condon adds that his Breaking Dawn cut is an attempt at "just making it into one seamless thing, making it feel more like the original novel." This particular "director’s cut" was created during Breaking Dawn’s post-production process.
For the time being, no word from Lionsgate / Summit Entertainment on whether or not Condon’s Breaking Dawn director’s cut will be released on DVD/Blu-ray. Having said that, it’s hard to believe that the studio(s) will pass on the chance to milk more (millions of) dollars from the Twilight movie franchise. Back in March, an “extended edition” of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1, featuring eight minutes of “never-before-seen footage,” was released on various home entertainment formats.
