David Yates‘ fantasy adventure Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, starring Daniel Radcliffe, Ralph Fiennes, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson, was for the second day in a row only slightly ahead of Disney’s Tangled at the US/Canada box-office on Thursday, Dec. 9. Deathly Hallows pulled in $1.12m vs. Tangled’s $1.09m as per Box Office Mojo.

Tangled, it should be noted, passed the $100m milestone on Thursday. Its current North American cume stands at $101,063,873.

Both Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 and Tangled will be kicked out of their positions this weekend. Fox’s The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader, despite some highly negative reviews, is expected to take in around $40m this weekend, while the even more widely panned The Tourist, starring Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp, should collect around $20m.

At no. 3, the Cher-Christina Aguilera musical Burlesque brought in $570k, followed by Edward Zwick’s romantic comedy-drama Love and Other Drugs, starring Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal, with $523k at no. 4.

Tony Scott’s Unstoppable, starring Star Trek’s Chris Pine and Denzel Washington, scored $441k at no. 5.

Next in line were Todd Phillips‘ comedy Due Date, starring Robert Downey Jr and Zach Galifianakis, with $386k at no. 6 and Dwayne Johnson and Billy Bob Thornton’s chug-along Faster with $330k at no. 7.

At no. 8, DreamWorks’ 3D animated feature Megamind grossed $270k.

Rounding out the top twelve were Paul Haggis-Russell Crowe’s The Next Three Days with $238k, Darren Aronofsky-Natalie Portman’s Black Swan (which will be expanding to 90 theaters this weekend) with $201,933, Sngmoo Lee-Jang Dong-gun’s The Warrior’s Way with $201,185, Harrison Ford-Diane Keaton-Rachel McAdamsMorning Glory with $176k.

Among the top-twelve movies, Black Swan once again posted the highest per-theater average, $11,219. Morning Glory posted the lowest, $78.

Also among the top twelve, six movies were down on Thursday; six were up. Black Swan posted the biggest drop-off rate, a minor -5.1%. Due Date posted the biggest attendance increase, a minor +5.5%.
