Box Office Milestones: ECLIPSE to Cross $250m, TOY STORY 3 to Cross $350m Today

THE SORCERER’S APPRENTICE Disappoints

Down one spot at no. 3, Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner’s The Twilight Saga: Eclipse edged ever closer to the $250m box-office milestone.

Following the addition of $3.72m, Eclipse’s total currently stands at $247.9m, as per figures found at Box Office Mojo. The $250m milestone will be reached some time today.

With $2.98m, the no. 4 movie was Lee Unkrich’s Toy Story 3, featuring the voices of Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack. Total to date: $348.4m. Toy Story 3 will be crossing the $350m mark some time today.

At no. 5, Adam Sandler, David Spade, Chris Rock, Kevin James, and Rob Schneider’s Grown Ups collected $2.08m.

At no. 6, Nimród Antal’s Predators, starring Adrien Brody, Topher Grace, Alice Braga, and Laurence Fishburne, brought in $1.88m — having fallen below the $2m per day mark on Day 6.

Next in line was M. Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender, starring Noah Ringer, Dev Patel, Jackson Rathbone, Nicola Peltz, and Shaun Toub, with $1.72m — another movie that has just fallen below the $2m per-day mark (Day 14).

The Tom Cruise-Cameron Diaz spy caper Knight and Day earned $856k at no. 8, followed by the Jackie Chan-Jaden Smith vehicle The Karate Kid with $611k.

Rounding out the top eleven were Liam Neeson’s The A-Team with $160k and John C. Reilly’s Cyrus with $147k.

Among the top eleven movies, Despicable Me had the highest per-theater average, $2,060 (one more decrease and it’ll fall below the $2,000 per-theater mark). In about 450 fewer theaters than on Tuesday, The A-Team had the lowest, $202.

Also among the top eleven, Cyrus posted the smallest audience decrease when compared to the day before, -5.2%. (Among the top ten, Despicable Me had the smallest, -12.2%.) The A-Team had the worst, -38.3%.

Lisa Cholodenko’s The Kids Are All Right, starring Annette Bening, Julianne Moore, Mark Ruffalo, Josh Hutcherson, and Mia Wasikowska, grossed $65k at 7 locations.

Among the films listed on Box Office Mojo’s Wednesday chart, The Kids Are All Right once again had by far the highest per-theater average: $9,304.
