George Clooney, Jean Dujardin, and Demián Bichir are Best Actor nominees for, respectively, Alexander Payne’s The Descendants, Michel Hazanavicius‘ The Artist, and Chris Weitz’s A Better Life. Their competitors are Brad Pitt for Bennett Miller’s Moneyball and Gary Oldman for Tomas Alfredson’s Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.
Glenn Close is a Best Actress nominee for Rodrigo García’s Albert Nobbs. Her competitors are Meryl Streep for Phyllida Lloyd’s The Iron Lady, Michelle Williams for Simon Curtis‘ My Week with Marilyn, Rooney Mara for David Fincher’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and Viola Davis for Tate Taylor’s The Help.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone/Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets director Chris Columbus is in the running as one of the producers of The Help. Stan Chervin was nominated for the "story" for Bennett Miller’s Moneyball, starring Brad Pitt. Mark Bridges is a Best Costume Design nominee for The Artist. And Lon Bender (along with Victor Ray Ennis) is a nominee for Best Sound Editing for Nicolas Winding Refn’s Drive, starring non-nominees Ryan Gosling and Carey Mulligan.
The 2012 Academy Awards will be presented on Sunday, February 26, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center. In the United States, the Oscarcast will be broadcast live by the ABC Television Network.
