Albert Nobbs is Glenn Close's sixth Oscar nomination. She was nominated five times in the '80s, then all but disappeared from Oscar view. Close's nominations were for the following: as Best Supporting Actress for George Roy Hill's The World According to Garp (1982), starring Robin Williams; Lawrence Kasdan's ensemble comedy-drama The Big Chill (1983), with William Hurt, Kevin Kline, and others; and Barry Levinson's The Natural (1984), starring Robert Redford. Her two Best Actress Oscar nods were for Adrian Lyne's Fatal Attraction (1987), with Michael Douglas and Anne Archer, and Stephen Frears' Dangerous Liaisons (1988), with John Malkovich and Michelle Pfeiffer.

Janet McTeer's Best Supporting Actress nomination is her second Oscar nod. Her previous one, as Best Actress, was for Gavin O'Connor's comedy-drama Tumbleweeds (1999), with Kimberly J. Brown.

Kenneth Branagh was previously nominated for Henry V (1989) as Best Actor and Best Director, for the live-action short film Swan Song (1992), and for the adapted screenplay of Hamlet (1995), which he also directed/starred in, along with Julie Christie and Kate Winslet.

Michelle Williams has been nominated for two previous Academy Awards. Her first was for playing gay cowboy Heath Ledger's wife in Ang Lee's Brokeback Mountain (1995). The second, in the Best Actress category, was last year, for Derek Cianfrance's drama Blue Valentine, co-starring Ryan Gosling.

The 2012 Academy Awards will be presented on Sunday, Feb. 26, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center. In the United States, the Oscarcast will be broadcast live by the ABC Television Network.

Bichir is a Best Actor nominee for Chris Weitz's A Better Life, in which he plays an undocumented Mexican immigrant eking out a living in Los Angeles. His competition for the 2012 Best Actor Academy Award consists of George Clooney for Alexander Payne's family drama The Descendants, Brad Pitt for Bennett Miller's baseball drama Moneyball, Gary Oldman for Tomas Alfredson's spy drama Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, and Jean Dujardin for Michel Hazanavicius' silent comedy-drama The Artist.

Dujardin was the Best Actor SAG Award winner. Clooney and Dujardin won Golden Globes for, respectively, Best Actor - Drama and Best Actor - Comedy or Musical. The Best Actor Oscar race seems to be between those two.

The Mexican-born Demián Bichir is a well-known stage, film, and television performer in his native country. Among Bichir's film credits are Steven Soderbergh's Che: Part One and Che: Part Two, as Fidel Castro; Juan Carlos Valdivia's Mexican-Bolivian crime drama American Visa (2005); and Max McGuire's Foreverland (2011), opposite Thomas Dekker, Juliette Lewis, and Max Thieriot.

Bichir's next movie is Oliver Stone's Savages, starring John Travolta, Taylor Kitsch, Salma Hayek, Uma Thurman, Aaron Johnson, Blake Lively, Benicio Del Toro, Emile Hirsch, Trevor Donovan, Avatar's Joel David Moore, and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2's Mia Maestro.

The 2012 Academy Awards will be presented on Sunday, Feb. 26, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center. In the United States, the Oscarcast will be broadcast live by the ABC Television Network.
