Hailee Steinfeld, Oscar nominee for Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role, arrives at the 83rd Annual Academy Awards at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood. Steinfeld was nominated for her role as an avenging teenager in Joel Coen and Ethan Coen’s True Grit.
Although Steinfeld was shortlisted as a supporting player, her character is True Grit’s female lead. Also in the True Grit cast: Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, and Josh Brolin. True Grit failed to win a single Oscar in spite of its ten nominations. It’s now one of the top three biggest losers in Oscar history, following Steven Spielberg’s The Color Purple (11 x 0), Herbert Ross‘ The Turning Point (11 x 0), and Martin Scorsese’s Gangs of New York (10 x 0).
