INCEPTION Reviews: Mostly Praise for Christopher Nolan’s Thriller/Sci-Fier

Inception poster Christopher Nolan

Inception reviews have been flooding the Internet this afternoon following a lift on the embargo and an early (unintentional) leak at chud.com.

Writer-director Christopher Nolan’s action-thriller starring Leonardo DiCaprio has been called "Kubrickian" and other good stuff. However, there has been at least one dissenter so far. (See the comingsoon.net review.)

In addition to DiCaprio, Inception stars Marion Cotillard, Ken Watanabe, Ellen Page, Michael Caine, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Tom Berenger, and Lukas Haas.

Considering that Inception revolves around people’s dreams and getting inside their heads, someone somewhere will surely make comparisons to Spike Jonze’s Being John Malkovich. Actually, they’d be apt comparisons, even though those two movies are eons apart in terms of plot and feel.

Inception opens July 16.

A few Inception review snippets below:

"At some point while watching Christopher Nolan’s mind-bending, soul-churning masterpiece, Inception is a journey into the unseen rooms of the mind. It is also a slightly uncomfortably intimate look inside the mind of Nolan himself. It’s a frightening place to be, as it would be to enter anyone’s mind – dwelling in the various levels of consciousness, weaving in and out of the fears, desires and behaviors." Sasha Stone, Awards Daily.

"Inception is a masterpiece. Making a huge film with big ambitions, Christopher Nolan never missteps and manages to create a movie that, at times, feels like a miracle. And sometimes it doesn’t even feel like a movie; while presented in woefully retro 2D, Inception creates a complete sense of immersion in another world. The screen before you is just another layer of the dream." Devin Faraci, chud.com.

"As much as I want to describe in meticulous detail the ways upon ways that I loved Christopher Nolan’s Inception, there’s a part of me that almost wants you to not read this until you’ve seen the film itself. Not unlike Warner Brothers’ marketing campaign has suggested, it’s a film that benefits from knowing as little as possible about it before seeing it, because its individual twists and turns are almost as exciting to discover as their cumulative visceral, intellectual and emotional impact. … proclaiming Inception a stunning achievement and the most completely entertaining film I’ve seen in years." Todd Gilchrist, Cinematical.

"In a great many ways, Inception is an exceptional film. It boasts a larger than life cast, a virtually unrestricted budget and a director at the top of his game both commercially and artistically. Action scenes feature mountain ski chases, zero-gravity fights and flawless special effect dreamscapes. So how is it that Inception comes together as such a bore?

"Inception’s problems stem completely from the screenplay. While we’re meant to believe that the world Nolan has created is of the utmost complexity, it is nowhere near the level that the exposition affords it. Inception is a monstrous, all-consuming exposition that seems to devour character and emotion to the point that, on the whole, the film feels like the origin story for a much more interesting tale." Silas Lesnick, comingsoon.net.

"No movie this year comes freighted with greater expectations than Inception, Chris Nolan’s follow-up to the global blockbuster The Dark Knight. Happily, the movie delivers and then some—thanks to clever original screenwriting and exhilarating mise-en-scene—in 2D." Anne Thompson, Thompson on Hollywood.

Tend not to listen to any nay-sayers regarding this movie flick..
. they are certainly mind dead teenagers who are not outdated sufficient to recognize this kind of intellectual viewing.. This is a incredibly assumed provoking movie that You’ve to keep up with, no going into the bathroom or concession stand or you will likely be lost the rest of the dvd movie! Inception is probably the best movie of the year! Nolan does it time and time again! I was a little skeptical going into the movie, I love Leo and Nolan, their movies are always good. But the premise sounded a little strange. Still, when you see it you realize how mind blowing an experience it is! Simply amazing, nothing less than 10 stars from me!

I really can’t wait to see this movie. With Nolan’s ability to create a world that I can slide right into and the acting of Leonardo DiCaprio I don’t see this as anything other than a win.
