Jeremy Renner BOURNE LEGACY Weekend Box Office

Jeremy Renner Bourne LegacyJeremy Renner Bourne Legacy weekend box office: No. 1 in North America

Directed by Bourne series screenwriter Tony Gilroy and starring two-time Academy Award nominee Jeremy Renner, The Bourne Legacy collected $14 million at 3,745 North American locations on Friday, Aug. 10, according to studio estimates found at Box Office Mojo. As per early estimates posted last night, The Bourne Legacy was expected to gross $45 million over the weekend after taking in $15 million on Friday (via Deadline.com). As a result of the thriller's slightly lower-than-anticipated Friday take, weekend estimates have been slashed to close to $41m.

The Bourne Legacy vs. Matt Damon Bourne movies

If the aforementioned estimates are on target, that means The Bourne Legacy will boast a solid opening, especially considering that it's a spin-off featuring not only a new lead actor, but also a new lead character (Jeremy Renner's Aaron Cross). Having said that, Tony Gilroy's directorial Bourne debut is trailing the previous two Bourne movies in revenues and all three of its predecessors in per-theater averages if inflation is taken into account.

Below are first-weekend box office figures and per-theater averages for the first three Bourne movies, all of them starring Matt Damon as Jason Bourne. Note that all three movies opened at fewer theaters than The Bourne Legacy, which is expected to average around $11,000 per theater ($41 million total figure):

  • Doug Liman's The Bourne Identity earned $27.11 million at 2,638 locations ($10,280 average) in June 2002 (approximately $37 million / $14,200 average today).
  • Paul Greengrass' The Bourne Supremacy brought in $52.52 million at 3,165 theaters ($16,594 average) in July 2004 (approx. $68 million / $21,400 average today).
  • Greengrass' The Bourne Ultimatum raked in $69.28 million at 3,660 venues ($18,929 average) in August 2007 (approx. $81 million / $22,100 average today).

Note: Official weekend box office estimates for The Bourne Legacy will be released on Sunday morning. Weekend box office actuals come out on Monday.

Bourne movies' production budgets

The Bourne Legacy cost a reported $125 million, which makes it costlier than its three predecessors – even accounting for inflation. For comparison's sake: The Bourne Identity was budgeted at $60m (approx. $76 million today), The Bourne Supremacy at $75 million (approx. $91 million today), and The Bourne Ultimatum at $110m (approx. $122 million today).

The Bourne Legacy cast

Besides Jeremy Renner, The Bourne Legacy features Academy Award winner Rachel Weisz (The Constant Gardener), Edward Norton, Scott Glenn, Stacy Keach, Albert Finney, Oscar Isaac, Donna Murphy, Michael Chernus, Corey Stoll, Zeljko Ivanek, Corey Johnson, Jennifer Kim, Shane Jacobson, David Strathairn, and Joan Allen.

  1. Fife Car

People who have watched Bourne series and expect the same kind of fast paced action and drama. This film will disappoint if you go with that thought. But if you watch the movie just to spend a good time and don't expect much then its a good movie to watch once. The movie doesn't have the fast pace and at the beginning it goes so slow that you wonder if this movie title had 'Bourne' in it. There are some dialogues in the movie which take the story nowhere, you wish they got to the point directly. The director of the movie is changed so should the title so that people don't expect much from this movie. Jeremy Renner does a good act and recently has come up as the new action hero.
