Down three spots at no. 4, Bobby Farrelly and Peter Farrelly’s Hall Pass, starring Owen Wilson, Jason Sudeikis, Jenna Fischer, Christina Applegate, and Richard Jenkins, took in $2.71m according to studio estimates found at Box Office Mojo. The $36m production has finally passed the $20m mark domestically. Its current total stands at $20.7m.
Among the holdovers, Justin Bieber’s 3D documentary Justin Bieber: Never Say Never had the most impressive box-office surge on Friday (compared to the day before), +215%. Much like a week ago, Never Say Never far surpassed the other movies on the chart, including Best Picture Oscar winner The King’s Speech, which actually posted the lowest Thursday-to-Friday increase. To date, Never Say Never has grossed $65.77m in the United States/Canada.
Down one spot from Thursday, the Jennifer Aniston-Adam Sandler comedy Just Go with It pulled in $1.92m at no. 5. It was followed by the Liam Neeson-January Jones thriller Unknown, which collected $1.86m at no. 6 — down four spots.
Next in line were Best Picture Oscar winner The King’s Speech, starring Best Actor winner Colin Firth, Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham Carter, down four spots with $1.64m at no. 7, and the Alex Pettyfer vehicle I Am Number Four, now at no. 8 with $1.6m.
Rounding out the top twelve were Gnomeo & Juliet with $1.51m, Topher Grace’s Take Me Home Tonight with $1.25m, Justin Bieber: Never Say Never with $1.22m, Martin Lawrence’s Big Mommas: Like Father Like Son with $810k.
Gone from the top twelve were the Nicolas Cage action-comedy Drive Angry 3D (after only one week), Jeff Bridges-Hailee Steinfeld’s True Grit, Channing Tatum’s The Eagle, Natalie Portman-Ashton Kutcher’s No Strings Attached, and, this time around for good, Mark Wahlberg-Amy Adams‘ The Fighter.
Among the top-twelve movies, Rango had the highest per-theater average, $2,489. Big Mommas: Like Father Like Son had the lowest, $493.
Also among the top-twelve (barring new entries Rango, The Adjustment Bureau, Beastly, and Take Me Home Tonight), as mentioned above Justin Bieber: Never Say Never posted the highest Thursday-to-Friday attendance increase, +215%. The King’s Speech, which had been doing quite well throughout the week following its Oscar wins, posted the lowest after losing 146 venues, +118%.
