Kellan Lutz and Ashley Greene, who have finally signed on to appear in Bill Condon's The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, had been unable to renegotiate their contracts following the original Twilight's unexpected success in 2008, according to one report. (Megan Fox was less lucky, as her option was reportedly not picked up for Paramount's Transformers 3.)
Starring Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner, and directed by Catharine Hardwicke, Twilight went on to gross $408.7m worldwide. The sequel, the Chris Weitz-directed The Twilight Saga: New Moon, earned even more money for Summit Entertainment: $709m worldwide.
Kellan Lutz, 25, Emmett Cullen in the Twilight movies, has recently been the star of Calvin Klein underwear ads (see photo), and is currently filming Love, Wedding, Marriage, directed by Dermot Mulroney, and featuring Mandy Moore, Jane Seymour, Blythe Danner, and James Brolin.
Ashley Greene, 23, Alice Cullen in the Twilight movies (above in New Moon), has signed on to appear in Butter, a comedy directed by Jim Field Smith, and starring Jennifer Garner, Hugh Jackman, Alicia Silverstone, and Olivia Wilde.
In addition to The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, Greene has two movies scheduled to come out in 2010: Todd Lincoln's The Apparition and Warrior, in which she co-stars with Lutz.
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn should being production in the fall. In all likelihood, this last installment of the Twilight Saga will be split in two parts and shot back-to-back: part I is to be released in fall 2011; part II would reach screens in summer 2012.
Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, and Kristen Stewart will be back as the three principals.
Directed by David Slade, Eclipse opens in the United States and about a dozen other countries on June 30. Melissa Rosenberg adapted Stephenie Meyer's bestselling novel.
