Muse’s “Neutron Star Collision (Love Is Forever)” with The Twilight Saga: Eclipse’s Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, Dakota Fanning, Bryce Dallas Howard, and the werewolves in the background
Muse (Matthew Bellamy, Christopher Wolstenholme, Dominic Howard) is Twilight Saga author Stephenie Meyer’s favorite rock band. At the end of each of her books, Meyer thanks them for their inspiration. "The Many bands and musicians that keep me motivated," Meyer wrote in the acknowledgment section of Breaking Dawn. "Did I mention Muse already? I did? Too bad. Muse, Muse, Muse…"
So, it’s no surprise that Muse has been featured in previous Twilight Saga soundtracks. This time around, however, the band’s "Neutron Star Collision (Love Is Forever)" is The Twilight Saga: Eclipse’s lead song. In fact, it’s the first Eclipse single to come out.
The "Neutron Star Collision" video is pretty minimalist. It basically consists of shots of the band playing under red and blue lights, interspersed with brief clips from Eclipse, mostly culled from the two previously released trailers. (There are a few additions as well, most notably a bit showing the vindictive vampire Victoria being pursued by huge werewolves.)
Those who hate Twilight have complained that the Eclipse clips featuring Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, Dakota Fanning, and Bryce Dallas Howard have ruined the "Neutron Star Collision" music video. Others have complained there’s nothing "edgy" about Muse’s rendition of the song or the music video itself.
But considering that the song in question is called "Neutron Star Collision (Love Is Forever)" and that the movie in question is a supernatural love story, edginess would hardly have been appropriate. "Neutron Star Collision" is a haunting song; much like Bella and Edward’s love story is supposed to be. Now, that I find perfectly appropriate.
Overall, I found Muse’s "Neutron Star Collision" music video more than just "appropriate." It’s simple but classy — much like the song itself. (I don’t know about the movie; that remains to be seen.)
Also, since it was written for the movie, that means "Neutron Star Collision (Love Is Forever) " should be eligible for the 2011 Best Song Academy Award. No guarantees it’ll get a nomination — those voters make some really, really odd choices — but it’d be curious if it did.
The Eclipse soundtrack album will also include songs by Florence and the Machine, Vampire Weekend, Beck, Bat for Lashes, Metric, The Dead Weather, The Black Keys and Cee-Lo. The album will be released in the United States on June 8 and is already available for pre-order online.
Directed by David Slade, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse opens in the United States and a number of other countries on June 30. The world premiere will be held in Los Angeles on June 24. Melissa Rosenberg adapted Meyer’s bestselling novel.
Also in the Eclipse cast: Xavier Samuel, Peter Facinelli, Kellan Lutz, Nikki Reed, Ashley Greene, Elizabeth Reaser, Jackson Rathbone, Billy Burke, Gil Birmingham, Kirsten Prout, Daniel Cudmore, Jodelle Ferland, Michael Welch, Cameron Bright, Anna Kendrick, and Catalina Sandino Moreno.
I like this song because I love in this film’s
all casting
Such an amazing song for Bella and Edward. Muse has done excellent. It was so popular that it was a worldwide trend on Twitter when the video came out. I’ll be playing it nonstop on my Ipod before I see the trilogy opening night.
