He’s got Robert Pattinson’s eyes: Mission: Blacklist poster
Robert Pattinson was officially cast in Mission: Blacklist, as American military interrogator Eric Maddox, about ten days or so ago. Producing company Embankment Films isn’t wasting any time. The sales poster for Mission: Blacklist, which will be peddled at the Cannes Film Festival, has been making the rounds online for several days.
"In a World of Lies Only One Man Could See the Truth." That man was apparently Pattinson’s Maddox, who claimed to have eschewed torture while trying to figure out the whereabouts of fallen Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein. The brief Mission: Blacklist plot synopsis reads as follows:
Unlike other Interrogators fresh out of training, Eric Maddox (Robert Pattinson) has a brilliant and beautiful mind. He has a unique ability to decipher highly complex patterns from seemingly random events.
His mission is to trap the world’s most wanted man, Saddam Hussein - and he must defy his superiors to uncover his prey. The closer he gets to the truth, the more dangerous the hunt becomes…
I thought Osama bin Laden was the world’s most wanted man, but never mind. Mission: Blacklist is based on (or perhaps merely "inspired by") factual events. Maddox offered his version of the story in his and Davin Seay’s book Mission: Black List #1: The Inside Story of the Search for Saddam Hussein — As Told by the Soldier Who Masterminded His Capture. (Note that the Mission: Impossible-like colon could already be found in the book’s title. It’s not something made up for the movie version.)
Jean-Stéphane Sauvaire, whose child-soldier war drama Johnny Mad Dog won the Regard Hope Award at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival, will direct Mission: Blacklist. Working on the screenplay are Erik Jendressen (The Big Bang / Band of Brothers), actor-turned-screenwriter Dylan Kussman (X2 / Leatherheads), and actor-producer Trace Sheehan (Grace & Mercy / The Bounceback).
