David Slade’s The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, about both the romantic and life-threatening entanglements faced by Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner, scored an estimated $81.1m over five days (Wed-Sun) at 9,440 screens in 63 territories, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
That’s only a 22% drop in attendance from the previous week. The chief reason for this stupendous performance was the addition of several key territories including the United Kingdom ($21m — biggest opening of the year), France ($12.4m, also the biggest opening of 2010), and South Korea.
Even so, considering the competition — the World Cup finals — Team Bella, Team Edward, and Team Jacob fared remarkably well.
After 12 days, Eclipse has grossed $219 million internationally. Its worldwide total currently stands at an estimated $456m.
Also in the Eclipse cast: Bryce Dallas Howard, Kellan Lutz, Xavier Samuel, Dakota Fanning, Peter Facinelli, Nikki Reed, Jackson Rathbone, Ashley Greene, Elizabeth Reaser, Billy Burke, Anna Kendrick, and Jodelle Ferland.
