Directed by Kevin Greutert, Saw 3D debuted with "an underwhelming" $11m on Friday, including a not very impressive $1.7m from Thursday midnight screenings, according to Nikki Finke’s early, rough estimates posted at Deadline.com.
For the Halloween weekend, Saw 3D — 3D surcharges notwithstanding — is expected to take in $28m. That’s less than Saws 2-5 earned on their first weekend, but more than Saw VI earned during its entire run ($27.69m.)
Paranormal Activity 2 was no. 2 with about $6.4m on Friday, and an estimated $18.5m for the weekend.
Bruce Willis-Helen Mirren’s Red, Johnny Knoxville’s Jackass 3D, and Clint Eastwood-Matt Damon’s Hereafter followed on Friday with $3.4m, $3m, and $2m respectively.
Remember, those are early, rough estimates. Official studio estimates will be released Saturday morning.
