Steven Spielberg arrives with Destry Spielberg for the 83rd Annual Academy Awards at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood. Steven Spielberg has won two Best Direction Oscars: for Schindler's List (1993) and Saving Private Ryan (1998). Schindler's List also won Best Picture, but Saving Private Ryan lost to Shakespeare in Love.

This year, Spielberg presented the Best Picture Award to The King's Speech, a British production distributed in the United States by Harvey Weinstein's The Weinstein Co. Back in 1998, Weinstein's Miramax distributed Shakespeare in Love.
