Kenneth Branagh’s Thor, starring Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Hopkins, Natalie Portman, and Tom Hiddleston, topped the North American box office once again, grossing $4.02m on Thursday, May 12, according to Box Office Mojo.

Thor is also expected to lead this weekend, despite competition from Bridesmaids and Priest.

Thor is expected to gross between $30m-$38m on its second weekend out. Last weekend, it took in $65m. Bridesmaids, featuring Kristen Wiig, Rose Byrne, Maya Rudolph, and Jill Clayburgh’s last film appearance, is expected to collect $15m-$20m, while the 3D Paul Bettany-Cam Gigandet horror drama Priest should land in third place with about $12m-$15m.

At no. 2 on Thursday, Fast Five, starring Paul Walker, Vin Diesel, and Dwayne Johnson, collected $2.1m. As mentioned yesterday, the Justin Lin-directed actioner will pass the $150m milestone at the domestic box office on Friday. Domestic total to date: $149.24m.

At no. 3, Kate Hudson-Ginnifer Goodwin’s Something Borrowed earned $1.1m, thus ensuring the poorly received romantic comedy will remain above the $1m-per-day mark at least until Monday.

The Angela Bassett-Paula Patton comedy Jumping the Broom pulled in $733k at no. 4. That was its first "up" day — +4% — this week. On the other hand, the Robert Pattinson-Reese Witherspoon-Christoph Waltz circus drama Water for Elephants had its first down day (-2%), collecting $561k at no. 5.

Carlos Saldanha’s Rio, featuring the voices of Jesse Eisenberg and Anne Hathaway, drew $436k at no. 6.

Next in line were Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Big Happy Family with $217k at no. 7 and African Cats with $142k, up three spots at no. 8.

Rounding out the top twelve were Glenn Close-Hayden Panettiere’s Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil with $141k, AnnaSophia Robb’s Soul Surfer with $134k, Jake Gyllenhaal-Michelle Monaghan’s Source Code with $116k, Aimee Teegarden-Thomas McDonell’s Prom with $104k.

Among the top-twelve movies Thor had the highest per-theater average, $1,018. Prom had the lowest, $38.

Also among the top twelve, five movies were slightly down on Thursday; seven were up. With +22%, African Cats was the only one to post a Wednesday-to-Thursday attendance increase rate above 10%. Thor posted the highest drop-off rate, -4%.
