Jeff Bridges, Hailee Steinfeld, True Grit
According to The Hollywood Reporter, True Grit topped the North American box-office this weekend, Jan. 7-9, grossing $15m according to studio estimates. Jeff Bridges, Hailee Steinfeld, Matt Damon, and Josh Brolin star in Joel Coen and Ethan Coen’s acclaimed Western. True Grit’s current total: $110.4m.
Starring Robert De Niro, Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Barbra Streisand, Dustin Hoffman, Teri Polo, Blythe Danner, and Jessica Alba, Little Fockers scored $13.8m in second place. Total to date: $124m. Worldwide total: $234m.
In the last two weekends, Little Fockers soared on Saturday and Sunday. Apparently, that didn’t happen this time around. I’ll be posting a more detailed box-office analysis later today, when daily figures and rates become available.
Starring Nicolas Cage, the fantasy adventure Season of the Witch debuted in third place, grossing $10.7m at 2,816 venues. The film’s average was an underwhelming $3,799 per site. Country Strong, featuring Gwyneth Paltrow, Garrett Hedlund, and Tim McGraw, collected $7.3m in fourth, averaging a good but not great $5,126 per theater.
