Also worth noting is that both the Golden Globes and the Critics Choice Awards nominate 10 films for Best Picture. The Golden Globes, in fact, have two Best Picture categories: Best Picture – Drama and Best Picture – Comedy or Musical.

Though selected as the Best Film of 2012 by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, Michael Haneke's French-language, French-Austrian-German co-production Amour has been singled out elsewhere in the Best Foreign Language Film Category. Earlier this year, Amour took home the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival.

Also: Walter Salles' On the Road, Stephen Chbosky's The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Roger Michell's Hyde Park on the Hudson, Ben Lewin's The Sessions, Jake Schreier's Robot & Frank, Sacha Gervasi's Hitchcock, William Friedkin's Killer Joe, Martin McDonagh's Seven Psychopaths, Dustin Hoffman's Quartet, Sarah Polley's Take This Waltz, Christopher McQuarrie's Jack Reacher, Todd Louiso's Hello, I Must Be Going, Nicholas Jarecki's Arbitrage, and Tom Tykwer, Andy Wachowski, and Lana Wachowski's Cloud Atlas.
