Tyler Perry’s HOW DID I GET MARRIED TOO Beats Expecations: Box Office
This Easter Weekend, Hot Tub Time Machine was down three slots to #6 with an estimated $8 million as per Box Office Mojo. The John Cusack comedy suffered an acceptable 42.9% drop from a week ago. Total after ten days out: $27.8. Production costs: $36 million.
Hot Tub Time Machine will likely match its production cost within the next ten days or so, but it has no chance of actually recovering it at the North American box office. (Studios get only about 50-55% of a movie's domestic gross.)
Also down three spots, the Jennifer Aniston-Gerard Butler romantic comedy The Bounty Hunter followed at #7 with $6.2 million, after shedding 48.4% of its revenues. To date, The Bounty Hunter has grossed $48.4 million. Production cost: $40 million.
At #8, down three slots, Diary of a Wimpy Kid earned $5.52 million, dropping 45.4%. Total to date: $46.2 million. Production cost: $15 million. Even including marketing and distribution costs, it looks like Wimpy Kid is already in the black. That's rare.
At a distant #9, Jay Baruchel’s teen comedy She’s Out of My League drew $1.463 million (-58.3%). Total to date: $28.6 million. Production cost: $20 million.
Next was the Martin Scorsese-Leonardo DiCaprio suspense drama Shutter Island, with $1.463 million. Total to date: $123.4 million. Production cost: $80 million.
Rounding out the top thirteen were Matt Damon’s Green Zone ($1.21m; total $33m), Roman Polanski’s The Ghost Writer ($1.13m; total $11m), and James Cameron’s Avatar ($985K; total $742m).
