In his BAFTA acceptance speech, Firth remarked that "an encounter with Tom Ford is to come away feeling resuscitated, a little more worldly, better informed, better groomed, more fragrant, and … more nominated than one has ever been." A Single Man was Tom Ford's first film. It earned Firth a best actor award at last year's Venice Film Festival.

Colin Firth has deserved an Oscar for several of the characters he has played. Hollywood is too political and still has the good ol boy attitude.
I agree the Oscar will be awarded to someone less talented – but fans out here know he is the best male actor to come along in a long time. Thank God Bafta recognised his wonderful portrayal of a man in pain. Great Job for many years Colin !!!!
Colin Firth deserve the Oscar as well, but probably will not get it. should have had golden globes. certainly the best actor of this year, and last as well.
Congratulation Mr Firth
A job well done, you most certainly deserved this award (and a globe i thought hohum)
