Pangea Day Event

Pangea Day, billed as "the result of documentary filmmaker Jehane Noujaim's 2006 TED Prize wish" is a global film event to be held on May 10, 2008.

According to the organization's press release, "Pangea Day aims to leverage the unifying power of film by encouraging everyone in the world to watch the same films, submitted by filmmakers of all levels from around the world, at the same time."

On May 10, Web-based Pangea Day live broadcasts (also available on some TV stations) of 24 short films will take place in Los Angeles, London, Kigali, Cairo, Rio, and Mumbai.

In addition to films, the event will feature music performances by Bob Geldof, The Eurythmics' Dave Stewart, the Iranian rock band Hypernova, and others, and the appearance of a diverse group of world personalities, ranging from Queen Noor of Jordan to CNN's Christiane Amanpour (one of the preciously rare true journalists working on television today.)

People all over are encouraged to organize "watch parties." (Planned "watch parties" can be viewed at Pangeaday.org.)
