Fred Zinnemann’s 1953 Academy Award-winning drama From Here to Eternity, starring Burt Lancaster, Montgomery Clift, Deborah Kerr, Donna Reed, and Frank Sinatra, will be screened by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Wednesday, November 18, at 7:30 p.m. at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. The presentation will feature the premiere of a new digital restoration, as well as an onstage discussion with Ernest Borgnine, who has a supporting role in the film.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences‘ Academy Foundation has awarded a total of $450,000 to 24 U.S. film festivals for the 2010 calendar year. Recipients range from Outfest: The Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Film Festival and the Ann Arbor Film Festival to the Wild and Scenic Environmental Film Festival and the True/False Film Fest.

2009 Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting Nominees
Six writers have been selected as winners of the 24th annual Don and Gee Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. For the fifth consecutive year a script written by a team earned its writers a fellowship; collaborative efforts were first allowed into the competition only in 2001.
Each writer or writing team will receive a $30,000 prize, the first installment of which will be given out at a gala dinner in Beverly Hills next November 12.

Oscar 2010: Oscar Correspondent Contest
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and mtvU, MTV’s 24-hour college network, have announced their second annual “Oscar Correspondent Contest,” which gives college journalists across the US the chance to win a trip to Los Angeles to cover red carpet arrivals and backstage activities at the 2010 Academy Awards.

From October 26 through December 18, college students are invited to submit a video at http://oscars.mtvu.com, showcasing their broadcast journalism skills and proving why they deserve to cover the Oscars. The art and craft of film editing is the topic of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ four-evening seminar series "Perspectives on Editing." Sessions will be held on three consecutive Tuesdays, September 22, September 29, and October 6, concluding on Wednesday, October 14, with a tribute to Oscar-winning editor Anne V. Coates. Each session will take place from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Academy’s Linwood Dunn Theater in Hollywood.

Oscar 2010: Scientific and Technical Awards Semi-Finalists
The Scientific and Technical Awards Committee of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced that 11 scientific and technical achievements have been selected for "further awards consideration," as per the Academy’s press release.
The release adds that "the list is made public to allow individuals and companies with similar devices or claims of prior art the opportunity to submit their achievements for review." The deadline to submit additional entries is Tuesday, September 15.
The committee has selected the following methods or devices for further consideration:
Enabling Technologies for Digital Intermediate (credit to be determined)
The Development of Fujicolor ETERNA-RDI Digital Intermediate Film (Fujifilm USA)
Relighting for Virtual Characters (USC ICT)
Imocap (Lucasfilm Entertainment)
