Fred Zinnemann&#8217;s 1953 Academy Award-winning drama From Here to Eternity, starring Burt Lancaster, Montgomery Clift,  Deborah Kerr, Donna Reed, and Frank Sinatra, will be screened by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on  Wednesday, November 18, at 7:30 p.m. at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in  Beverly Hills. The presentation will feature the premiere of a new digital  restoration, as well as an onstage discussion with Ernest  Borgnine, who has a supporting role in the film.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and  Sciences&#8216; Academy Foundation has awarded a total of $450,000 to 24 U.S. film festivals for the 2010  calendar year. Recipients range from Outfest: The Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Film Festival and the Ann Arbor Film Festival to the Wild and Scenic Environmental Film Festival and the True/False Film Fest. 
Two festivals, the Nashville Film Festival and the  New Orleans Film Festival, are in the second year of a three-year grant  worth  $75,000. 		<description><![CDATA[Six writers have been selected as winners of the 24th annual Don and  Gee Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting, presented by the Academy of  Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. For  the fifth consecutive year a script written by a team earned its  writers a fellowship; collaborative efforts were first allowed into the  competition only in 2001.
Each writer or writing team will  receive a  $30,000 prize, the first installment of which  will be given out at a gala dinner in Beverly Hills next November 12.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and mtvU, MTV’s 24-hour college network, have announced their second annual “Oscar Correspondent Contest,”  which gives college journalists across the US the chance to win a trip to Los  Angeles to cover red carpet arrivals and backstage activities at the  2010 Academy Awards.

Their scripts will now be  read and judged by the Academy’s Nicholl Committee, which may give out as  many as five of the $30,000 fellowships.

Michael Moore shooting Bowling for Columbine

Michael Moore&#8217;s  Bowling for Columbine, Kevin Macdonald&#8217;s One Day in September, and Errol Morris&#8216; The Fog of War are among the 12 Oscar-winning short and feature documentaries to be screened as part of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and  Sciences’ &#34;Oscar’s Docs, Part Five: Academy Award-Winning  Documentaries 1998–2003&#34; beginning Monday, October 19, at 7:30 p.m. at  the Academy’s Linwood Dunn Theater in Hollywood. The screenings will be  held Monday evenings through November 23.
&#8220;Oscar’s Docs&#8221;  is a comprehensive screening series of every short subject and feature  to win the Academy Award for documentary filmmaking since the category  was established in 1941.

The art and craft of film editing is the topic of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ four-evening seminar series &#34;Perspectives on Editing.&#34; Sessions will be held on three consecutive Tuesdays, September 22, September 29, and October 6, concluding on Wednesday, October 14, with a tribute to Oscar-winning editor Anne V. Coates. Each session will take place from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Academy’s Linwood Dunn Theater in Hollywood.

		<description><![CDATA[The Scientific and Technical Awards Committee of the Academy of  Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced  that 11 scientific and  technical achievements have been selected for &#34;further awards  consideration,&#34; as per the Academy&#8217;s press release.
The release adds that &#34;the list is made public to allow  individuals and companies with similar devices or claims of prior art  the opportunity to submit their achievements for review.&#34; The deadline  to submit additional entries is Tuesday, September 15.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has awarded a  $50,000 grant to underwrite the 2009 edition of the  Telluride Film Festival’s Guest  Director program, which this year will feature Alexander Payne, among whose credits are Election, About Schmidt, and Sideways. 
This is the second consecutive year that the  Academy has funded the program. In 2008, the festival’s guest director  was Slovenian political philosopher and cultural  critic Slavoj Zizek.

Tom Sherak was elected president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Tuesday night, Aug. 18,  by the Academy’s Board of  Governors. He succeeds Sid Ganis, who  served  the maximum four consecutive one-year terms in  office.
A marketing, distribution, and  production executive, Sherak is currently a consultant for Marvel Studios and is just  beginning his seventh year as an Academy governor representing the Executives Branch.

		<description><![CDATA[The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced that  Edward Zwick, among whose credits are Glory, The Last Samurai, and Blood Diamond, has prevailed in the run-off for the open Directors Branch  seat on the 2009-2010 Board of Governors; this will be Zwick&#8217;s first term  on the Board. 
Earlier this  month, run-off ballots were mailed to Directors Branch members when  Zwick and Gil Cates, the producer of numerous Oscar telecasts, tied for the seat. This was the first time in Academy history that there was a  tie in the balloting.
