PASSENGER SIDE: Q&A with Matt Bissonnette

In Matt Bissonnette’s psychological comedy-drama Passenger Side, recently screened at the Los Angeles Film Festival, two brothers go on a road trip throughout the Los Angeles area and the desert nearby.
Michael Brown (Adam Scott) begins his birthday with a telephone call from his estranged brother, Tobey (Joel Bissonnette), who has a long history of drug addiction. Tobey needs a ride to several places throughout town, but is initially reluctant to explain exactly where he wants to go and why. Just as reluctantly, Michael becomes Tobey’s chauffeur for the day.

Los Angeles Film Festival 2009: HUMPDAY, PASSENGER SIDE, EMBODIMENT OF EVIL

A few highlights today at the Los Angeles Film Festival, currently being held (mostly) in the Westwood Village and at the Westside’s Landmark theater complex. The festival runs until June 28.
Among today’s highlights are:

Passenger Side, one of the recommendations in the L.A. Weekly, which describes the Canadian dramatic comedy as "literate, amusing and unexpectedly moving." Written and directed by Matthew Bissonnette, the film follows two brothers — struggling writer Adam Scott and ex-junkie Joel Bissonnette (Matthew’s brother) — on a road trip throughout the Los Angeles area.

THE AVIATOR Screening

Martin Scorsese’s 2004 Best Picture nominee The Aviator is the next feature in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences‘ "Great To Be Nominated" series. The handsome but vapid Howard Hughes biopic will be screened on Monday, July 28, at 7:30 p.m. at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.
Following the screening, cast members Alec Baldwin, Jacob Davich, J.C. Mackenzie, and Amy Sloan, production sound mixer Petur Hliddal, special effects supervisor R. Bruce Steinheimer, and miniature effects supervisor Matthew Gratzner will take part in a discussion about the film.
The US$100-million-plus The Aviator wasn’t quite the hoped-for critical and box-office hit, though the biopic won numerous accolades and did good business thanks to the casting of Leonardo DiCaprio [...]
