No Jeff Bridges, Marion Cotillard, Randy Newman: Oscar’s Best Songs Not to Be Performed Onstage
Marion Cotillard won’t sing Maury Yeston’s "Take It All" from Nine, Jeff Bridges won’t perform Ryan Bingham and T Bone Burnett’s "The Weary Kind" from Crazy Heart, Randy Newman won’t do a rendition of "Almost There" and "Down in New Orleans" from The Princess and the Frog, and Reinhardt Wagner and Frank Thomas won’t stage "Loin de Paname" from Paris 36 at the 2010 Academy Awards ceremony next March 7.
Why not? Simply because this year’s Best Original Song nominees will be presented via clips from the films in which they are sung, "which is how most nominated achievements are featured within the show," Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences spokeswoman Leslie Unger explained Wednesday.

In December, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that forty-nine songs are contending for a spot in the 2009 Academy Awards‘ Best Original Song category.
Three to five songs will receive a nomination. A maximum of two songs may be nominated per film. If more than two songs from a film end up in contention, the two songs with the most votes will be the nominees. In other words, no five High School Musical 3: Senior Year nominated songs. (Last year, Enchanted received three nominations — all of them in the best song category.)

Oscar 2006: Best Song Longlist
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced that 42 original songs are being considered for the 2006 Academy Awards.
As per the Academy’s press release, three-minute clips of each song, in random order, will be shown to music branch voting members on January 17 and January 23. At these screenings, members will vote to nominate three to five songs.
In order to be eligible for Oscar consideration, a song must consist of original lyrics and music written specifically for the film.
Nominations for the 2006 Academy Awards will be announced on Tuesday, January 31, 2006, at 5:30 a.m. PST, in the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.
