THE TALKING CURE: Freud, Christoph Waltz, Keira Knightley, David Cronenberg

Academy Award nominee Keira Knightley has been set to star opposite Cannes Film Festival winner Christoph Waltz in The Talking Cure, a new film about Austrian psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud, according to the website moviepilot.de.
Waltz, 53, has received numerous accolades in the United States for his performance as a vicious, multi-lingual Nazi in Inglourious Basterds (right), Quentin Tarantino’s World War II drama that is a likely Oscar contender. The actor will be playing Freud himself, widely respected by some as the father of modern psychoanalysis, widely denigrated by others as a pseudo-scientist.
Knightley, the female lead in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and the star of Pride & Prejudice, will play one of Freud’s patients. With David Cronenberg (A History [...]

Michelle Pfeiffer in CHERI Trailer

Directed by Stephen Frears and adapted by Christopher Hampton from Colette’s novel, Chéri stars Michelle Pfeiffer as a 1920s French courtesan who teaches a young man (Rupert Friend) the ways of love and sex.
Also in the Chéri cast: Kathy Bates, Felicity Jones, Anita Pallenberg, Frances Tomelty.
Chéri opens in the US on June 26.

No Country for Old Men, which stars Josh Brolin (above), Javier Bardem, and Tommy Lee Jones, has won nearly every U.S. critics’ awards this season. The Coens’ adapted screenplay is also in the running for this year’s Writers Guild award. Literary Achievement Award recipient Steven Zaillian happens to be the only winner of three Scripters: Awakenings (1990), Schindler’s List (1993), and Gangs of New York (2002).

A man is dead. Who among the greedy, ruthless, amoral singing-and-dancing suspects stuck in the snowbound countryside mansion has done it? 8 women is an acquired taste, bien sûr. What seems silly the first time around becomes increasingly wittier and funnier — though no less bizarre — with each repeated viewing. Beautifully shot by Jeanne Lapoirie and chock-full of bitingly sardonic lines and situations (adapted by director François Ozon and Marina de Van, from Robert Thomas’ play), this murder musical is dotted with 8 of the brightest stars of the French cinema of the last 7 (!) decades.
