New SUPERMAN Movie: Christopher Nolan as “Mentor”

Brandon Routh in Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns

Christopher Nolan will act as "godfather" of the next Superman movie, Nikki Finke and Mike Fleming report at Deadline Hollywood. According to the article, Superman 3.0 is in its very early stages. Nolan would likely act as an executive producer, but will probably not direct at least in part because he’s also involved in the third installment of the Batman franchise, which is currently being written by his brother Jonathan Nolan and Batman Begins co-writer David Goyer, who also wrote the story for The Dark Knight.
In the long and detailed Deadline Hollywood report, the authors also explain the many twists and turns along the path of Superman Returns — the 2006 release directed by [...]

AVATAR Has Passed STAR WARS, #3 All-Time Domestic

Giovanni Ribisi, Sigourney Weaver in Avatar (Mark Fellman / 20th Century Fox)

James Cameron’s Avatar has grossed an estimated $41.3 million over the weekend, a modest 17.9 percent drop from a week ago, according to figures provided by Box Office Mojo. Its average per theater was a great $12,572 (last week: $14,173); among the weekend’s top 12 films, the nearest competitor was the post-apocalyptic Denzel Washington vehicle The Book of Eli, with $10,162 on its opening weekend.
As predicted, Avatar has passed George Lucas‘ 1977 sci-fier Star Wars at the domestic box office. Avatar’s total domestic gross to date stands at $491.7m vs. Star Wars‘ $460.9m. Cameron’s film is now the third biggest blockbuster ever at the domestic [...]

Biggest Oscar Snubs #7: DREAMGIRLS, THE DARK KNIGHT

Oscar Nomination Snub #7
Dreamgirls (2006) and The Dark Knight (2008)

Biggest Oscar Snubs #8c: Catherine O’Hara
Both Bill Condon’s Dreamgirls and Christopher Nolan’s mega box-office hit The Dark Knight received nominations from the Producers Guild and the Directors Guild. Additionally, the Dreamgirls cast was shortlisted by the Screen Actors Guild, while The Dark Knight got a nod from the Writers Guild.
Both films went on to garner a total of 8 Oscar nominations — but not in the Best Picture, Best Director, or Best Screenwriting categories.
I’m assuming that Dreamgirls and The Dark Knight received lots of votes from Academy members in the aforementioned categories, but not enough of those votes were in the #1 [...]

INCEPTION, THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE, SHUTTER ISLAND: Most Anticipated 2010 Movies

Inception, Iron Man 2, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (above, lower photo), and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows are some of Metacritics‘ choices for the 20 most anticipated movies of 2010.
Directed and written by Christopher Nolan, Inception is a sci-fi thriller starring Leonardo DiCaprio (who also stars in Martin Scorsese’s upcoming Shutter Island, above top photo), Marion Cotillard, Ellen Page, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ken Watanabe, Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Michael Caine, and Tom Berenger.
Iron Man 2 brings back Robert Downey Jr, hopefully in a well-oiled plot, while The Twilight Saga: Eclipse brings back Robert Pattinson, Orange Rising Star nominee Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner as, respectively, vampire, human, and buffed-up werewolf. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, for [...]

THE LIMEY d: Steven Soderbergh

The Limey (1999)
Direction: Steven Soderbergh
Screenplay: Lem Dobbs
Cast: Terence Stamp, Lesley Ann Warren, Luis Guzman, Peter Fonda, Barry Newman, Joe Dallesandro, Nicky Katt, Amelia Heinle, Melissa George

By Dan Schneider of Cosmoetica:
Director Steven Soderbergh’s 1999 so-called crime drama The Limey is easily the best Soderbergh effort I’ve seen. That’s partly due to the innovative narrative structure, which makes all but the last few minutes of this great film a flashback. The rest is due to an excellent script by Lem Dobbs, whose other great success came a year earlier, in Alex Proyas’ sci-fi thriller Dark City. Both films, despite their apparent differences, are acutely focused on human memory and [...]
