Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian outran its competition at the North  American box office this weekend with $53.5 million, according to studio  estimates Sunday.

Ron Howard’s Angels  &#38; Demons topped the North American box office with $48 million  in ticket sales, according to studio estimates Sunday.
The latest big-screen adaptation  of one of Dan Brown’s popular novels struggled to beat J. J. Abrams’ Star  Trek (above, top photo), which came in a close second with another $43 million this  weekend. The sci-fi reboot’s domestic total currently stands at $147.6 million.

Moviegoers  beamed up J. J. Abrams&#8216; Star Trek reboot to the No. 1 spot at the  North American box office, with a solid $72.5 million in ticket sales,  according to studio estimates Sunday.

Online leak or no, X-Men Origins:  Wolverine slashed its competition at the North American box office  with a remarkable $87 million in ticket sales, according to studio estimates  Sunday. 
Released by 20th  Century Fox, the Gavin Hood-directed action spectacle scored an average of  $21,225 per theater at 4,099 locations.

Hugh Jackman,  whose box-office disappointment Australia has thus far been ignored by award-giving groups, will host the Oscar 2009 ceremony on February 22. 
As per Brook Barnes in the New York Times,  Oscar telecast&#8217;s producers Laurence Mark and Bill Condon &#34;said they hoped to achieve multiple goals with the casting of  Mr. Jackman. First, there is a desire to put more movie in the annual  movie business extravaganza. Seth  Gordon’s holiday comedy Four Christmases topped the North  American box office this Thanksgiving weekend with US$31.6 million in ticket sales, according  to studio estimates Sunday. 
Starring  Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon as a couple paying a visit to all four of  their divorced parents on Christmas Day, the film lifted its domestic total to  $46.7 million after only five days in release.

Jumping  to No. 2 this weekend was Walt Disney’s Bolt, which  collected another $26.5 million and brought its cumulative gross to $66.8 million.
