That’s considerably above expectations. As a result, instead of earning around $25 million over the weekend as some pundits had predicted, Identity Thief is on its way to something closer to $33m-$35 million, depending on the after-effects of winter storm Nemo, which just hit the U.S. northeast. Attendance was down 21.5 percent in relation to Tuesday and a huge 45.3 percent in relation to the previous Wednesday, according to figures found at Box Office Mojo. Additionally, three movies fell below the $1m-per-day mark for the first time: Emma Thompson’s Nanny McPhee Returns on Day 6, the Twilight Saga spoof Vampires Suck on Day 8, and Alexandre Aja’s Piranha 3D on Day 6. This will be the debut appearances for Bateman and Baron Cohen — who had been rumored as a possible Oscarcast host. Stiller has appeared on five previous Oscar telecasts, in one of which dressed as a frog. Or perhaps it was a squid. Starring Vince Vaughn, Jon Favreau, Kristin Davis, Kristen Bell and Jason Bateman, the film follows four couples traveling to a prestigious tropical island resort where they’re forced to partake in numerous couple therapy sessions.
