At the North American box office, Crazy Heart (above), The Blind Side, and The Hurt Locker were the only three movies that benefited from their Oscar victories last Sunday.
Starring Jeff Bridges as a down-and-out country singer who strikes up a relationship with a younger woman (Maggie Gyllenhaal), Crazy Heart earned Bridges the Best Actor Oscar, in addition to another statuette for Best Original Song ("The Weary Kind" by T Bone Burnett and Ryan Bingham).
More than any other film, Crazy Heart has been immensely helped by the awards season buzz. Following Bridges’ win the film lost a mere 5.7 percent from the previous weekend — the smallest decrease among the top twelve films at the North American box office according [...]

At easyodds.com you can bet on who will win the 2010 Oscar. Things look good for Jeff Bridges, Sandra Bullock, Kathryn Bigelow, Christoph Waltz (1-20), Mo’Nique, and The Hurt Locker. Meryl Streep and Avatar come in second place, not far behind the top choices in their respective categories.
At the other end, things don’t look all that good for Morgan Freeman (25-1), Jeremy Renner (28-1), Helen Mirren (80-1), Gabourey Sidibe (20-1), Quentin Tarantino (33-1), Jason Reitman (150-1), Lee Daniels (150-1), Matt Damon (40-1), Penelope Cruz (33-1), or Maggie Gyllenhaal (40-1). And the odds are totally against District 9 (150-1), An Education (150-1), and A Serious Man (200-1).

Best Supporting Actress: Mo’Nique, Precious

Other nominees: Penélope Cruz, Nine; Vera Farmiga, Up in the Air; Maggie Gyllenhaal, Crazy Heart; Anna Kendrick, Up in the Air.
Like Christoph Waltz, Mo’Nique will have to come up with new ways of saying thank you once she is called onstage to pick up her Oscar statuette. The comedienne’s highly dramatic performance as Gabourey Sidibe’s abusive mother in Lee Daniels‘ Precious has earned praise across the board — across the Atlantic, even.
Mo’Nique has won just about every best supporting actress award available in the United States, in addition to a best actress trophy at the Stockholm Film Festival. Jeff Bridges, Maggie Gyllenhaal in Crazy Heart (top); Sandra Bullock, Tim McGraw in The Blind Side (bottom)

Those expecting to find major surprises in the 2010 Oscar nominations were in for a major surprise: there were very, very few truly unexpected nominees.
All five Directors Guild nominees, Kathryn Bigelow, James Cameron, Quentin Tarantino, Lee Daniels, and Jason Reitman were shortlisted by the Academy. Gyllenhaal’s nomination, in fact, could be considered the biggest Oscar surprise this morning. Many were predicting that some other actress would take Kruger’s place at the Oscars, but most [...]
