The American Society of Cinematographers has announced its list of nominees. They are Barry Ackroyd  for The Hurt Locker,  Dion Beebe for Nine, Christian Berger for The White Ribbon, Mauro Fiore for Avatar, and Robert Richardson for Inglorious Basterds.

The feature-film nominees for the 2007 American Society of Cinematographers Award are critics&#8217; fave Emmanuel Lubezki (Children of Men), plus Dick Pope (The Illusionist), Robert Richardson, (The Good Shepherd), Dean Semler (Apocalypto), and veteran Vilmos Zsigmond (The Black Dahlia), who has been shooting films &#8212; among them Close Encounters of the Third Kind and The Deer Hunter &#8212; since the early 1960s.
The above list include  the eighth ASC nomination for Richardson; the third for Zsigmond, who won in 1993 for the telefilm Stalin;  the second for Lubezki and Semler; and the first for Pope.

The big surprise in this year&#8217;s ASC list was that critics&#8217; favorites Christopher Doyle and Xiaoding Zhao were not included among the five finalists for their work in the Chinese films Hero and House of Flying Daggers, respectively. Roberto Schaefer of Finding Neverland was also another notable absentee.
On the other hand, the inclusion of  The Passion of the Christ cinematographer Caleb Deschanel shouldn&#8217;t come as a surprise [...]]]></description>
