Alfonso Cuarón wins 2014 DGA Award for 'Gravity' (photo: Directors Guild of America Award winner Alfonso Cuarón and last year's DGA Award winner Ben Affleck) As expected, Alfonso Cuarón won the 2014 Directors Guild of America Award for the blockbuster Gravity at a January 25, 2014, ceremony held at Los Angeles' Hyatt Regency Century Plaza. “We saw all these photographs of earth from space, and it's absolutely beautiful; hues of greens and blues,” Cuarón told the crowd after receiving his award from last year's DGA winner, Ben Affleck. “Everything seems so organic [from space]. Those silly lines and boundaries we put on political maps, you can't see that from space. It's a bizarre experiment of nature, that is the human experience. Channing Tatum: Genghis Khan Admirer to Direct MAGIC MIKE 2?

Channing Tatum to direct Magic Mike 2? Channing Tatum, whose White House Down opens this evening in North America, may co-direct the sequel to his 2012 sleeper domestic hit Magic Mike. Unlike the original film, directed by Academy Award winner Steven Soderbergh (Traffic) and loosely based on Tatum's own experiences as a stripper, the star of The Vow and 21 Jump Street told The Hollywood Reporter that the aptly titled (at least for now) Magic Mike 2 "will be a road-trip movie, and it will essentially be the movie that everyone thought the first one was going to be: crazy and fun and less slice-of-life and less drama. The first one, we had to make not so cheesy and campy; this one we are going to swing for the fences." (Photo: Channing Tatum in a rare non-shirtless moment in Magic Mike.) Channing Tatum adds that either he and producing partner […]

Behind the Candelabra HBO Hit: Liberace movie starring Michael Douglas and Matt Damon nearly breaks record Behind the Candelabra, the Steven Soderbergh-directed Liberace biopic starring Michael Douglas as Liberace and Matt Damon as his lover-chauffeur Scott Thorson, was first aired Sunday evening on HBO. The result: 2.4 million television viewers, the largest audience for an HBO original film in nearly a decade. Another 1.1 million viewers watched a repeat broadcast later in the evening. (Photo: Michael Douglas as Liberace, Matt Damon as Scott Thorson in Behind the Candelabra.) Curiously, the flamboyantly gay Behind the Candelabra trailed only another (much more sedate) HBO biopic about the relationship between two disparate men: Joseph Sargent's Something the Lord Made, about heart surgery pioneers Alfred Blalock (Alan Rickman) and Vivien Thomas (Mos Def). According to Nielsen, Something the Lord Made was watched by 2.6 million people in late May 2004. Behind the Candelabra: HBO […]
