New Arab Cinema

Paradise Now (2005) directed by Hany Abu-Assad, starring Kais Nashef, Ali Suliman

“I didn’t choose this role, but I feel responsible for protecting the dignity of the Arab people,” says director Hany Abu-Assad (Paradise Now). “We have a huge responsibility now that our politicians have failed us.” Abu-Assad is quoted in the Independent article “New dawn for Arab cinema.” I highly recommend this brief but fascinating look at films and filmmakers in the so-called Arab World. (”Arab Worlds” might be a more accurate description of that very diverse section of the planet.)
