Cineciudad or Vollywood?

“It’s a Hollywood dictatorship. They inoculate us with messages that don’t belong to our traditions … (about) the American way of life, imperialism.” That’s Venezuela’s populist president Hugo Chávez, one of the myriad unbalanced government leaders currently plaguing world politics.
Located outside of Caracas, the US$11 million film complex — skyrocketing oil prices continue to fill the coffers of Chávez’s government — is supposed to become a “cultural artillery” against Hollywood imperialism.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, only six films were produced in Venezuela in 2005, and three so far this year.
