Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart Breaking Dawn - Part 2 beats Daniel Craig in Skyfall and Daniel Day-Lewis in Lincoln: Friday box office
Breaking Dawn - Part 2, starring vampires Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, and werewolf Taylor Lautner, beat super spy Daniel Craig's Skyfall and U.S. president Daniel Day-Lewis' Lincoln at the North American box office on Friday, Nov. 30. Slightly ahead of Breaking Dawn - Part 1, the final entry in the Twilight movie franchise took in $5.61 million according to studio estimates found at Box Office Mojo. Sam Mendes / Daniel Craig's James Bond flick Skyfall was no. 2 with $4.87 million, followed by Steven Spielberg / Daniel Day-Lewis' Lincoln with $4.03 million. Rounding out the top five were Ang Lee's Life of Pi with $3.3 million and Peter Ramsey's DreamWorks / Paramount release Rise of the Guardians with $2.97 million.
Budgeted at a hefty $145 million – not including marketing and distribution expenses – one Wall Street analyst called Rise of the Guardians “one of the most disappointing releases in [Dreamworks'] history.” After ten days, Rise of the Guardians' domestic cume stands at $38.91 million. Up to November 25, its international cume in about a dozen territories (including Russia / CIS) was $13.5 million.
Also: At no. 6 on Friday, Andrew Dominik / Brad Pitt's Killing Them Softly reportedly debuted with a dismal $2.5 million at 2,424 locations, and received an “F” CinemaScore grade. At no. 10, the low-budget horror flick The Collection opened with a paltry $1.1 million at 1,403 venues.
