'Snow White' Film: Cast Images & Kristen Stewart 'Is the One'

'Snow White and the Huntsman' movie clip: 'She Is the One'

May 17, '12, update: A magical white stag bows before Kristen Stewart's Snow White in the Snow White and the Huntsman clip “She Is the One.” (See below.) Also on display is Dominic Watkins' superb production design.

Chris Hemsworth, whose Huntsman hasn't bathed since long before the fall of the Roman Empire, doesn't have much to say in the clip, but after watching the previous SWATH movie clip, I'm not sure I buy his uncouth British accent – or his lines. (Ahem, that's a Scottish burr.)

More convincing is Bob Hoskins (Best Actor Oscar nominee for Mona Lisa, 1986) as one of the dwarves. Hoskins has a great little monologue; the way he delivers each word, you'd think he is indeed someone living in the Middle Ages:

“You have eyes, Huntsman, but you cannot see. You, who have been with her the longest. She's life itself. She will heal the land. She is the one. Gold or no gold. Where she leads, I follow.”

See below Bob Hoskins showing 'em how it's done.

First-timer Rupert Sanders

Directed by feature-film first-timer Rupert Sanders, Snow White and the Huntsman was co-produced by Joe Roth, one of the producers of the Tim Burton-Johnny Depp blockbuster Alice in the Wonderland. The screenplay is credited to Evan Daugherty (Killing Season), John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side), and Hossein Amini (Drive).

In addition to Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth, and Bob Hoskins, Snow White and the Huntsman features the following:

Charlize Theron (soon to be seen in Ridley Scott's Prometheus) as the Evil Queen. Sam Claflin (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) as Prince William. Ray Winstone (Hugo). Ian McShane (Jack the Giant Killer). Toby Jones (The Hunger Games).

Also: Eddie Marsan (Vera Drake). Lily Cole (The Moth Diaries). Vincent Regan (Clash of the Titans). Noah Huntley (Your Highness). Nick Frost (Attack the Block). Rachael Stirling (Salmon Fishing in the Yemen).

Stewart will soon to be seen opposite Garrett Hedlund and Sam Riley in Walter Salles' On the Road, and opposite Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner in Bill Condon's The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2.

Hemsworth's credits include The Avengers, The Cabin in the Woods, and Red Dawn, coming out later this year.

'Mirror Mirror'

Tarsem Singh's Mirror Mirror, another version of the Snow White vs. Evil Queen tale, stars Julia Roberts, Lily Collins, and Armie Hammer. This particular fantasy opened in late March 2012.

Domestic reviews were mixed, and the lighthearted comedy turned out to be a box office disappointment in North America. Overseas, however, Mirror Mirror has performed relatively well, especially in the United Kingdom, Russia, and Brazil.

SWATH team: Sam Claflin (Prince Charming), Kristen Stewart (Snow White), director Rupert Sanders, Charlize Theron (the Evil Queen), and Chris Hemsworth (the Huntsman) at the medieval Arundel Castle in West Sussex, England. The Snow White and the Huntsman world premiere was held earlier this week in London.

Written by Evan Daugherty (Killing Season), John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side), and Hossein Amini (Drive), Snow White and the Huntsman opens June 1. Also in the SWATH cast are Who Framed Roger Rabbit's Bob Hoskins, The Departed's Ray Winstone, Shrek the Third's Ian McShane, The Hunger Games' Toby Jones, and Vera Drake's Eddie Marsan.

In addition to: The Moth Diaries' Lily Cole, Clash of the Titans' Vincent Regan, 28 Days Later's Noah Huntley, Shaun of the Dead's Nick Frost, and The Young Victoria's Rachael Stirling.

The 22-year-old Kristen Stewart, whose Snow White has a lot in common with Joan of Arc (minus the death by fire), has two other movies coming out in 2012:

  • Based on Jack Kerouac's novel, Walter Salles' On the Road will be screened at the Cannes Film Festival, which kicked off yesterday. IFC Films will distributed the road movie in the US sometime this year. In addition to Stewart (as Marylou), On the Road features Sam Riley, Garrett Hedlund, Kirsten Dunst, Viggo Mortensen, Amy Adams, Danny Morgan, Alice Braga, and Tom Sturridge.
  • Bill Condon's The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2, the final installment in the Twilight movie series. Kristen Stewart's two Breaking Dawn 2 leading men are Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner. Besides the twi-trio, the film's cast includes twi-regulars Peter Facinelli, Elizabeth Reaser, Kellan Lutz, Ashley Greene, Nikki Reed, Jackson Rathbone, Booboo Stewart, Michael Sheen, Julia Jones, Billy Burke, and Dakota Fanning.

Oscar winner Charlize Theron (Monster), 36, has another 2012 release as well: Ridley Scott's eagerly anticipated horror sci-fier Prometheus. The sort-of Alien prequel features Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace, Logan Marshall-Green, Guy Pearce, Idris Elba, Sean Harris, and Rafe Spall.

Chris Hemsworth, 28, currently has two movies out: Drew Goddard's generally well-received horror flick The Cabin in the Woods and Joss Whedon's global blockbuster The Avengers, co-starring Chris Evans, Tom Hiddleston, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, and Robert Downey Jr. Opening later this year is Dan Bradley's Red Dawn remake, in which Hemsworth is featured with Josh Hutcherson, Isabel Lucas, and Josh Peck.

Sam Claflin, 25, should next be seen in the Hammer horror drama The Quiet Ones. Claflin had previously supported Johnny Depp and Penélope Cruz in Rob Marshall's Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and had one of the key roles in James Strong's United.

First-time feature-film filmmaker Rupert Sanders may next direct Snow White and the Huntsman 2.

Starring Julia Roberts, Lily Collins, and Armie Hammer, Tarsem Singh's Mirror Mirror, a lighthearted, comic version of the Snow White tale, opened last March. A domestic box office disappointment, Mirror Mirror fared better abroad.

Kristen Stewart Marchesa dress SWATH premiereKristen Stewart becomes a sultry vampire in the last Twilight movie, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2. How sultry? How vampiresque? Just check out the Kristen Stewart photo on the right, taken at the Snow White and the Huntsman World Premiere held in London earlier this week.

The Kristen Stewart dress is described as a “Gothic lace Marchesa” in The Hollywood Reporter. And whether or not you care for how celebrities dress (and I couldn't give a damn), Stewart's garment was a memorable fashion statement. The make-up has no description that I've seen, but it's, huh, a memorable make-up statement all the same.

As part of the Snow White and the Huntsman promo, the SWATH team also posed for pictures at the Arundel Castle in West Sussex, England. Snow White (Kristen Stewart) showed up in a miniskirt, accompanied by the Evil Queen (Charlize Theron), the cleaned-up Huntsman(Chris Hemsworth), Prince Charming (Sam Claflin), and director Rupert Sanders.

Written by Evan Daugherty (Killing Season), John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side), and Hossein Amini (Drive), Snow White and the Huntsman opens June 1. Also in the SWATH cast are Mrs. Henderson Presents' Bob Hoskins, The Departed's Ray Winstone, Shrek the Third's Ian McShane, The Hunger Games' Toby Jones, and Vera Drake's Eddie Marsan.

In addition to: The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus' Lily Cole, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance's Vincent Regan, 28 Days Later's Noah Huntley, Shaun of the Dead's Nick Frost, and The Young Victoria's Rachael Stirling.

In addition to Snow White and the Huntsman, Kristen Stewart, 22, has two other movies coming out in 2012:

  • Walter Salles' On the Roa, which IFC Films will distribute in the US sometime this year. In addition to Stewart (as Marylou), On the Road features Sam Riley, Garrett Hedlund, Kirsten Dunst, Viggo Mortensen, Amy Adams, Danny Morgan, Alice Braga, and Tom Sturridge.
  • The aforementioned The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2, the final installment in the Twilight Saga franchise. Directed by Dreamgirls / Kinsey's Bill Condon, Kristen Stewart's co-stars with Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner. Breaking Dawn 2's cast also includes twi-regulars Peter Facinelli, Elizabeth Reaser, Kellan Lutz, Ashley Greene, Nikki Reed, Jackson Rathbone, Booboo Stewart, Michael Sheen, Julia Jones, Billy Burke, and Dakota Fanning.

Starring Julia Roberts, Lily Collins, and Armie Hammer, Tarsem Singh's lighthearted Mirror Mirror opened last March. A domestic box office disappointment, Mirror Mirror was more successful overseas.

SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN
2012, Universal, 116 min, USA, Dir: Rupert Sanders
In this visionary, Gothic reimagining of the classic Brothers Grimm fairytale, vain queen Ravenna (Oscar winner Charlize Theron) sends an intrepid huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) into the foreboding woods to find and kill Snow White (Kristen Stewart), a princess who is prophesied as “the fairest of them all.” But when the Huntsman and tough warrior Snow White come face to face, allegiances change. With costumes by three-time Oscar-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood. Produced by Joe Roth (Alice in Wonderland) and Sam Mercer (The Sixth Sense) and directed by Rupert Sanders (Halo 3).

Also in the Snow White and the Huntsman cast are Bob Hoskins, Ian McShane, Eddie Marsan, Ray Winstone, Vincent Regan, Noah Huntley, Nick Frost, Rachael Stirling, and Toby Jones. Kristen Stewart, for her part, has two other movies coming out in 2012:

As for Chris Hemsworth, he currently has two movies out: Drew Goddard's The Cabin in the Woods and Joss Whedon's worldwide blockbuster The Avengers, co-starring Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, and Tom Hiddleston. Next in line for Hemsworth is Dan Bradley's Red Dawn, with Josh Hutcherson, Isabel Lucas, and Josh Peck.

Chris Hemsworth Huntsman Snow White and the Huntsman
Chris Hemsworth, Huntsman: Snow White and the Huntsman

Charlize Theron is possessed by the Bette Davis of The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex (and The Virgin Queen) in this Snow White and the Huntsman clip. (Please scroll down.) Chris Hemsworth is the Huntsman who is brave (or stupid or crazy) enough to dare think he has the option not to do what his queen is telling him to.

The “she” referred to in the Snow White and the Huntsman clip is, needless to say, Snow White (Kristen Stewart). According to a cool-looking talking mirror, Snow White is destined to surpass the Queen in sheer fairness. The Queen, none too happy, wants Snow to melt away. Snow, however, turns out to be as resilient as she's white.

Directed by Rupert Sanders, Snow White and the Huntsman opens June 1. In addition to Charlize Theron (to be seen in Ridley Scott's Prometheus), The Avengers' Chris Hemsworth (who has Red Dawn coming out later this year), and Kristen Stewart (who has Walter Salles' On the Road and Bill Condon's The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 coming out), Rupert Sanders' period adventure drama features Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides' Sam Claflin as Prince William, Hugo's Ray Winstone, Jack the Giant Killer's Ian McShane, Who Framed Roger Rabbit's Bob Hoskins, and The Hunger Games' Toby Jones.

Also: Vera Drake's Eddie Marsan, The Moth Diaries' Lily Cole, Clash of the Titans' Vincent Regan, Your Highness' Noah Huntley, Attack the Block's Nick Frost, and The Young Victoria's Rachael Stirling.

The Snow White and the Huntsman screenplay is credited to Killing Season's Evan Daugherty, The Blind Side's John Lee Hancock, and Drive's Hossein Amini.

Tarsem Singh's Mirror Mirror, which stars Julia Roberts, Lily Collins, and Armie Hammer opened in late March. Reviews were mixed, and the lighthearted comedy turned out to be a box office disappointment in North America. On the other hand, Mirror Mirror has performed well enough at the international box office, particularly in the United Kingdom, Russia, and Brazil.

Snow White and the Huntsman's Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth, Charlize Theron, and Sam Claflin are currently being interviewed at MTV.News. (Please scroll down for the embedded video.) Directed by Rupert Sanders, Snow White and the Huntsman opens June 1.

Kristen Stewart, best known as Bella Swan in the Twilight movies, is now discussing how she relates to Snow White. Oscar winner Charlize Theron (Monster and soon to be seen in Ridley Scott's Prometheus) says “we saw the potential … to find … how much more you can explore with [the Snow White fairy tale].” Theron adds that Snow White's story has “endless possibilities.” And Sam Claflin is explaining whether or not he felt any pressure after getting a role in a major movie like Universal Pictures' Snow White and the Huntsman.

Charlize Theron then made some joke about her early “softporn” (or “soft-core porn”?) career. Sorry, I wasn't able to follow that one, as I'm watching the interview and typing at the same time. Something to do with Theron's previous TV work.

Kristen Stewart also said that she doesn't like to have the Evil Queen labeled a “bitch.” Charlize Theron came up with a response for that, emphasizing the word “bitch,” and adding that “I screamed so much at people [on the set] that I tore a stomach muscle” and that she became “a big pain in the ass,” begging for “crab service.” And that “Kristen loves to describe things in three words.” It's unclear whether or not Theron got any crab service or if the rest of the Snow White and the Huntsman cast and crew ate it all by themselves.

Snow White and the Huntsman movie poster
Snow White and the Huntsman movie poster

Where's Kristen Stewart's Snow White on the Snow White and the Huntsman movie poster? Oh, Stewart is there, on the left, slightly below Chris Hemsworth's Huntsman. But visitor, visitor, who's the most visible of them all? Personally, I'd say Charlize Theron's Evil Queen, holding the biggest dagger in the known universe and surrounded by crows (ravens?) coming out of her robe. (Notice that this poster is similar but less action-packed than the French poster.)

Directed by first-timer Rupert Sanders, Snow White and the Huntsman opens June 1. Though not expected to break any box office records, Snow White and the Huntsman is expected to fare quite well at the box office. After all, SWATH is Kristen Stewart's first “commercial” movie role since Bella Swan in the phenomenally successful Twilight movies. And it is Chris Hemsworth's other major 2012 release, right on the heels of the incredibly successful The Avengers. Even Charlize Theron, who hasn't been much of a box office draw of late, has Ridley Scott's sci-fier Prometheus about to dramatically raise her profile.

And, as the Snow White and the Huntsman poster tells you (in larger print than the one for the names of the stars), Sanders' Gothic adventure drama was co-produced by Joe Roth, one of the producers who brought you Tim Burton / Johnny Depp's global megahit Alice in the Wonderland.

In addition to Kristen Stewart (who also has Walter Salles' On the Road and Bill Condon's The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 coming out this year), Chris Hemsworth (who has Red Dawn coming out later this year), and Charlize Theron, Snow White and the Huntsman features Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides' Sam Claflin as Prince William, Hugo's Ray Winstone, Jack the Giant Killer's Ian McShane, Mona Lisa's Bob Hoskins, and The Hunger Games' Toby Jones.

Also: Vera Drake's Eddie Marsan, The Moth Diaries' Lily Cole, Clash of the Titans' Vincent Regan, Your Highness' Noah Huntley, Attack the Block's Nick Frost, and Salmon Fishing in the Yemen's Rachael Stirling.

The screenplay is credited to Killing Season's Evan Daugherty, The Blind Side's John Lee Hancock, and Drive's Hossein Amini.

Tarsem Singh's Mirror Mirror, which stars Julia Roberts, Lily Collins, and Armie Hammer opened in late March. Reviews were lukewarm, and the lighthearted comedy turned out to be a box office disappointment in North America. However, Mirror Mirror performed well enough at the international box office.

STUNNING! I love her - a star is born. Angelina will pass her crown to KS!

Well I wouldn't really know since I'm not Scottish and all but I just wanted to point it out. The only reason I knew it was Scottish because the Director mentioned it in an interview.

  3. altfilmguide

    Oh. We stand corrected.
But does Chris Hemsworth sound Scottish?

  4. Janine

The Huntsman's accent is supposed to be Scottish not English
