'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' NOT to Become All-Time Worldwide Blockbuster?

'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' with Oscar Isaac: Poe Dameron and pals NOT to become all-time box office champs? 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' NOT to become worldwide top-grossing movie of all time? Dec. 21, '15, update: J.J. Abrams' futuristic adventure movie Star Wars: The Force Awakens was the most eagerly awaited film release since … let's see … Marlon Brando and Maria Schneider made out in Bernardo Bertolucci's Last Tango in Paris back in the early '70s, destroying families, lives, and whole nations. Or perhaps, since Luis Buñuel's Viridiana created a furor at the Cannes Film Festival back in 1961, leaving audiences the world over desperate for a look at the movie condemned by both the Spanish military and […]

'Jurassic World' Box Office: Truly Beating 'The Avengers' Worldwide and Domestically?

'Jurassic World' velociraptor kicks Iron Man ass at worldwide box office. 'Jurassic World' officially surpasses 'The Avengers' at worldwide box office Directed by Colin Trevorrow; starring Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Vincent D'Onofrio; and co-executive-produced by Steven Spielberg, Jurassic World has officially become the third biggest worldwide box office hit in history. The Jurassic Park sequel – or reboot, as it's basically the same story with a slightly different twist – has surpassed Marvel's Joss Whedon-directed all-star superhero flick The Avengers, which broke box office records back in 2012. Of course, “officially” just ain't what it used to be – like, in the days before The Fall. So you wisely ask, “But which movie has actually sold the most […]

'Avatar 2' and Sequels Release Dates

'Avatar 2' and follow-up sequels' release dates revealed (image: Na'vi Sam Worthington in 'Avatar') Avatar, James Cameron's late 2009 (and early 2010) blockbuster that spearheaded the (currently dwindling) popularity of 3D movies, will have three sequels. Why exactly that has come as a surprise revelation for some is unclear. Sigourney Weaver, who for quite a while has been scheduled to return for the Avatar sequels, had already mentioned that there would be three movies, filmed concurrently much like Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies. Anyhow, James Cameron and Avatar distributor 20th Century Fox have announced that the three sequels will be released as follows: Avatar 2 (not to be confused with Avatar: The Last Airbender […]

Marvel 'Avengers': Ahead or Behind 'Titanic' & 'The Dark Knight'? + 'Abraham Lincoln' Movie Flops

Marvel 'The Avengers' movie vs. 'The Dark Knight' June 29, '12, update: Starring Scarlett Johansson (photo, as Black Widow), Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Robert Downey Jr, Tom Hiddleston, and Jeremy Renner, Joss Whedon's The Avengers movie has officially surpassed Titanic's original box office take. Back in 1998, James Cameron's romantic epic starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet, Gloria Stuart, and a gigantic iceberg cumed at $600.78 million. After adding $838,000 on Wednesday, The Avengers' cume stands at $601.21 million. And just last week, Whedon's actioner also surpassed the inflation-adjusted take of Christopher Nolan / Christian Bale / Heath Ledger's The Dark Knight. Titanic, of course, continues well ahead of the Avengers movie in number of tickets sold – even […]

'Titanic 3D': James Cameron Iceberg Epic Nears $3 Billion Worldwide

Titanic with Kate Winslet, Billy Zane April 16 The Titanic 3D rerelease hasn't broken any box office records in North America, where it has taken in an estimated $44.41 million after 12 days. Overseas, however, it's another story. This weekend (which includes Wed./Thu. in some territories), Titanic 3D topped the international box office, collecting an estimated $98.9 million at 9,889 theaters in 69 territories (representing more than 100 countries), according to Box Office Mojo. In China alone, James Cameron disaster / romantic epic starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet, and veteran Gloria Stuart drew $67 million, an official record for that country (not adjusted for inflation / currency fluctuations). For comparison's sake: several years before China became a box office powerhouse […]

'Titanic 3D' London Premiere: James Cameron & Kate Winslet

Two days ago, James Cameron made world headlines for reportedly finding himself about 11 1/4 kilometers below sea level in the Marianas Trench, which is supposed to be the deepest spot on Earth. Whether as a testament to human-made technology or human-made p.r., Cameron was actually able to tweet to his followers: “Just arrived at the ocean's deepest pt. Hitting bottom never felt so good. Can't wait to share what I'm seeing w/ you.” Fast forward a couple of days and Cameron is above ground in London with Kate Winslet (photo) – but not Leonardo DiCaprio – at the premiere of Titanic 3D, the (are you ready?) 3D version of Cameron's 1997 multiple-Oscar-winning megablockbuster about a luxury liner that sank […]

'Titanic 3D' Poster: Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet and Sinking Ship

Titanic 3D poster: Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet, sinking ship Titanic 3D opens April 6, 2012. But the romantic/disaster movie's poster (via moviefone.com) is already here, just in time for Valentine's Day. Directed by James Cameron, and starring youthful couple Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, following its late 1997 release Titanic went on to become the biggest box office hit the universe had ever known – if you choose to ignore inflation, of course. Paramount, 20th Century Fox, and Cameron's Lightstorm Entertainment have reportedly spent 60 weeks and $18 million on the Titanic's full restoration and 2D-to-3D conversion, which is more than double what the actual ship cost back in 1912. (Well, okay – if, once again, you choose to ignore […]

TITANIC 3D: Highly Positive Early Reactions

TITANIC 3D: James Cameron Presents 8-Scene Preview Early reactions to Titanic 3D have been highly favorable James Cameron directed. Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet, Gloria Stuart star. See below: “The footage I saw this morning left me speechless. I'm not joking around when I say it's the best post conversion I've ever seen and it looks like they originally shot it in 3D back in 1997. … even if you see the film in 2D or 3D in April, you will not believe how crystal clear the images are and how good the film looks. However, before you start to think Cameron made any changes to the actual film, he told us they are not editing a single scene. He's not […]
