Tom Sherak Reelected Academy President; Annette Bening Elected Secretary

Tom Sherak was reelected president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences tonight (Aug. 3) by the Academy's Board of Governors. This will be Sherak's second consecutive one-year term in that capacity. According to the Academy's press release, Sherak is beginning his eighth year as a governor representing the Executives Branch. He had also served as the Academy's treasurer. Tom Cruise & Reese Witherspoon in 'Paper Wings'? + 'Red Riding' Trilogy Available

Reese Witherspoon, Vince Vaughn Four Christmases (top); Tom Cruise, Cameron Diaz Knight and Day (bottom) Tom Cruise and Reese Witherspoon may be paired up in Paper Wings, a rodeo-driven love story, according to Steven Zeitchik's Los Angeles Times blog 24 Frames. Paper Wings is currently being developed at Sony. According to the report, Cruise would play a rodeo champ while Witherspoon would be the country singer with whom he falls in love. Four years ago, Witherspoon won a Best Actress Oscar for her portrayal of real-life country singer June Carter in Walk the Line. Tom Sherak Elected Academy President

Tom Sherak was elected president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Tuesday night, Aug. 18, by the Academy's Board of Governors. He succeeds Sid Ganis, who served the maximum four consecutive one-year terms in office. A marketing, distribution, and production executive, Sherak is currently a consultant for Marvel Studios and is just beginning his seventh year as an Academy governor representing the Executives Branch. Previously, Sherak was a partner at Revolution Studios where he oversaw the release of more than 40 films, among them Black Hawk Down, Anger Management, Rent, and Across the Universe.
