Winners were male, female, white, black, openly gay, openly straight, newcomers, old-timers, American, Mexican, British, Hungarian, Italian – even film people and TV people. Best Visual Effects Oscar: Tom Cruise action thriller 'Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation' bypassed. 2016 Best Visual Effects Oscar semi-finalists: 'Ex Machina,' 'The Revenant' surprisingly remain in the running A couple of weeks ago, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the semi-semi-finalists for the 2016 Visual Effects Academy Award. There were 20 movies on the list. On Monday, Dec. 21, the Academy announced 10 films as the actual semi-finalists; five of these will be shortlisted for the 2016 Oscar. As found in its press release, the Academy's “Visual Effects Branch Executive Committee determined the shortlist. Best Visual Effects Oscar Contenders: Daring Tom Cruise & Destructive Dinosaurs In

Best Visual Effects Oscar contender: 'Jurassic World' dinosaurs competing with plane stowaway Tom Cruise. 2015 Best Visual Effects Oscar longlist: Spies, superheroes and GMO dinosaurs Today, Dec. 7, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that 20 movies are in the running for the 2016 Best Visual Effects Academy Awards. These feature just about everything, from tiny bugs, Tom Cruise, and Jennifer Lawrence to genetically modified giant lizards, groovily clad intergalactic stormtroopers, and (mostly) guys in Halloween costumes performing the usual eye-popping feats.
